A Soldier In A War

So here I lay in eternal sleep,

Replaying my life as a soldier,

Would I change a single thing,

Would I still be here if war didn't begin?

The enemy is near,

The footsteps are loud,

But we will not give in,

We stand together proud,

He closes his weary eyes,

And places his head down to sleep,

He takes a deep breath,

And tries not to weep.

Sometimes the darkness does creep in,

In the most peculiar of ways,

Sometimes the silence,

Is endless for days.

We are the ones who fight and die,

We might to be able to save the world,

But, at least we try,

In order for that flag, you love to fly.

We came here for the ones we hold dear,

if that's not respected,

We would rather stay here,

So please stop yelling, put down your differences,

And pray for those behind enemy lines,
