Absence of Restraint

Absence of Restraint

A mother made her

Child sleep in the cradle,

Left home to fetch water

From the far away river

In the meanwhile a snake

Crept into the house, started

Approaching the cradle, a mongoose

Attacked, killed it, cut into pieces,

The victorious mongoose was

Eagerly waiting for

The mother at the door

On returning, the mother saw

The mongoose with blood on

Its mouth, her worst

Thought was that it must

Have killed her child

In the absence of the restraint,

The heavy pot was dropped on,

The mongoose died on the spot,

She ran to the cradle,

To her great surprise

Found her child safe and sound

Repented, but all in vain
