Bapu in Today's World

Later night I had a vision,

"Bapu" appeared in my dream,

I was shocked and just asked him,

"Where do you fit into the scheme,

Of Modern World,

In Today's World?".

        "The Father of the Nation",

         Wearing his moon glasses,

         Gave a smile,

         A sad and watery smile,

         "I don't know my child,"

         Said he in a voice so mild.

In our times too,

There was a lot of hullabaloo,

Over power and position,

But never was there a situation,

Where rogues managed a lot,

And the public had to bear their lot.

         There never was a situation,

         Of utter chaos and calamity,

         Which I find is a grave pity,

         I had my differences with the 'Pundit',

         But never was it minded a bit.

Now what has happened?

With my namesakes,

Do they even know their populace?,

We too had to suffer a lot,

I saw the Nation divided,

But never from within was it there.

          We had to suffer for our deeds,

          Never for someone else's,

          We had enemies,

          But never unseen,

          We too had diseases,

          But never incurable.

I asked his advice,

On what we should do,

But still he just gave,

A sad and watery smile,

And said,

"Alas! I regret,

Taking the Nation from the"whites",

And giving it to the rogues."

          As morning came I realized,

          It was just a vision,

          Of a sad and defeated,

          "Father of the Nation",

          Who did a lot in his time,

          But can never fit into,

          "Today's Indian World".
