CHANGE THE CHANNEL
Change the channel; kill the sound
Can’t we watch something we both like?
Seems simple to me. You list what you like
I’ll do the same. Then we can compare lists. Okay?
(time passes)
Together we are once more. You read your list
Then I’ll read mine. Yes? Commence. The other’s list
Comedy (English), Drama (English), thriller/action
Mysteries/crime series (preferably English)
Foreign language movies, suspenseful movies
Is that it? Yes, they reply. Yours? I begin
Romance movies (any), movies with happy endings
Movies that make me laugh; movies that help me forget
When I’m feeling sad, murder/mysteries, action, and suspense
A moment’s silence, as we each think and compare
We agree on murder/mystery, action, and suspense
Is that a place to start? Just a small matter, why is your preference?
English? The English have not forgotten or mislaid the qualities
of quiet suspense, and dramatic irony, (irony in its totality). Americans?
Their humour is pre-packaged, obvious and garish, and frankly unfunny.
His lordship has spoken, you quip. Just my personal opinion, he says
Can we agree, you say, to select a movie; watch it together, to the end
Without a running commentary on its deficiencies; is that possible?
Time we can spend together, in some form of harmony; the two of us?
The experiment starts now? Don’t see why not. Let’s choose a title.
Yes, let’s. An excellent idea.
