Cultures Painting India
The calendar at my home
Shimmers bright
By different colours
Marked highlights
And petals adorn the roads sometimes
The aazans are like melodies in the shrine.
These crackers lighten up the sky at night
The bleak clouds then sparkle in flight
The colours you throw on my white kurta
Try to paint it with your hues of happiness.
And I remember how my amma's sewieen
The brought smile on your own face
How you became a sweet tooth
Waiting more for these caramel strands.
You light up a tree
With bells and balls
And wait for Santa
To bring you joy box.
Then you March together
With turban covering your head
And take the procession
By saying, "Vahi Guru" in praise.
They say we are divided
By colours, hymns and Faith above
But what brought us together
Was our true friendship and love.
So the next time you describe Indian festivities and their fall,
Just say, "India is diverse" and that's what I call.
