Estranged Hearts

Amidst the chaos of a world upturned,

A young boy watches as his parents churn,

Their love now faded, their hearts estranged,

The discordant notes of their conflict ranged.

 

Standing helpless, a silent witness he, 

To bitter disputes, verbal agility, 

As each parent vies for their prize, 

In a battle for love, with no compromise.

 

The boy implores them, his voice meek and frail, 

Yet his pleas fall on deaf ears, to no avail, 

Lost in their own pain, they fail to see, 

The anguish and perplexity of their progeny.

 

The courtroom's gavel falls, the verdict clear,

Neither parent wants the boy near,

He's just a burden, a constant reminder,

Of a love that failed, a love that's a liar.

 

The boy gazes up, his eyes now moist, 

His fate clear to him, his heart aghast,

In a world so harsh, so bitterly cold, 

Hearts fight for a new love untold.

 

He turns and walks away, his steps unsure,

His heart shattered, his soul so pure,

For he knows now, that in this world so vast,

The innocent are the ones who suffer the most.
