An insect is an Invertebrate

That is a creature without spine

They can be found in all seasons

Be it hail, monsoon or sunshine

Its body is divided into three parts

The topmost has head-

Which has the eyes, mouth and antennae’s

The next comes thorax –

Which has the back and the wings

Finally the abdomen

That consists of major organs

Like stomach and heart

On Earth, they are the

Most populous creatures

Insects are the only animals

That have “Feelers “

An insect baby is called “larva”

Their existence are threatened

By birds like the

Weaver bird-Baya

Life cycle of an insect

Is from the time it is

Born till it dies

Weavil stays for about 40 days

28 is the life span of a house fly

For a butterfly’s wheel of life

Starts with an egg

That turns into caterpillars

The caterpillars eat and become fat

And wrap itself in its cocoon

This stage is called “pupa”

And finally, it turns into

A beautiful butterfly

That soars high

Social insects like ant and termites

Stay in a group

They always live together

In a permanent or temporary

Abode or coop

Some, insects that damage

Crops, suck blood or cause destruction

Like mosquitoes, locusts and termites

Are difficult to control

As they go on a rampage

They are called pests

And can be seen causing havoc

Without a break or a rest

Though some insects that

Spoil nothing, should be treated

Like good guests

Insecticides are harmful

As it also kills

Insects that are useful

Harming plants and foodgrains

Because they are chemicals

That have an adverse effect on

The Food-Life Chain

Mosquitoes lay their eggs

In still water

So, we should not allow

Water to become stagnant

Also, pests eating animals

We should never hunt

Gambusia affins (type of fish )

Should be introduced to

Our local water bodies

As, eating these pests eggs

Is their hobby

Insects are important

As without them the

Food chain will collapse
