PARENTHOOD - A SUPERHERO TALE

 

Repeated, silly and curious questions, 
 
Seeking permissions and childish demands, 
 
Innocent laughter and unreasonable quarrels- 
 
That's how the world of children is! 
 
Logic and reasoning are insignificant there 
 
But in solving them, they are indispensable. 
 
 
 
I just get so busy and messy in their world, 

 
At times being a multifaceted teacher; 
 
Lecturing in letters, numbers, and shapes, 
 
Rectifying mistakes and matters they ignore. 
 
Beyond all, I well know, to be the best teacher, 
 
I must be a little childish and a little childlike. 
 
 
 
The next moment, I turn into a playmate; 
 
Catering to their unreasonable little demands, 
 
Enacting wild denizens of the jungle, 
 
And lovingly responding to their frivolous rebukes. 
 
But to be the best of their playmates, 
 
I must be a little more skillful than a child. 
 
 
 
On other occasions, I sing and dance; 
 
Singing songs I never learned or heard, 
 
Shaking hands and feet to call that a dance, 
 
Humming lullabies to make them sleep. 
 
All I need is to forget my age and time 
 
And I remain young, like them at this age. 
 
 
 
In no time, I am a physician and nurse; 
 
Healing their little scratches and bruises 
 
Alleviating pain, showing the wonders around 
 
And helping them vanish the bitter medicines. 
 
It's my love, not any tonic, that cures them 
 
And I am the best infirmary they have ever seen. 
 
 
 
I am a bedtime storyteller on their sleepless nights; 
 
Impersonating and emulating the wild animals, 
 
Bringing curiosity and vivid emotions onto their faces. 
 
I discover the unknown author and actor in me. 
 
Convincing and satisfying their little curious minds 
 
Is what often makes my nights like sunny days. 
 
 
 
An unimaginable world I have to grow into for them; 
 
A fascinating world of music, dance and colours. 
 
Inhibitions and inabilities become mere words, 
 
If you live in the world of little children for awhile. 
 
Letting them taste the best season of life ever 
 
Is what makes parenting a superhero tale.
