The Best Brother

The Best Brother

I wish I had a well-behaved brother,

Who’d be more of a help and less of a bother.

The exact opposite to the current one,

Someone who I’d never want to shun.

A brother who didn’t pull my hair while I slept,

Who didn’t tell my dad where my kindle was kept.

A brother who didn’t grin at me after I slapped him,

Who didn’t laugh at me after I’d just had a trim.

A brother who didn’t rat me out when I told him a secret,

Who didn’t always infuriatingly, compare me an egret.

A brother who didn’t bang at the washroom door while I was in,

Who didn’t have a fit and throw my homework in the bin.

A brother who didn’t pretend to be deaf and dumb,

Who didn’t lick a plate to get to a crumb.

A brother who always heeded my advice,

Who didn’t ignore it when he deemed it unwise.

A brother who didn’t desert me for his friends,

Who didn’t try to dress in the already-old trends.

A brother who didn’t measure his weight thrice a day,

Who didn’t pester me to do his work till I said “okay”.

A brother who didn’t suck up to grown-ups,

Who didn’t say foals were better than pups.

A brother who didn’t dare to back-answer me,

Who didn’t insist on sitting on my shoulders and climbing a tree.

A brother who unhesitantly shared his chocolate,

Who didn’t act superior because his shoes were from a factory outlet.

I would give you many more such examples,

If only I wasn’t being forced to go play scrabbles.

I hate to leave you, but I really have to go,

But not before warning you of your foe --

Even if you think so,

Never tell your brother he looks like a crow.
