The Child Within
The Child Within
Legally, growing up is turning eighteen
But hey, this isn't a machine
Life cannot be scripted like on a screen
My grandfather was a child at heart
My brother was always adult-like smart
They were eighty years apart
I grew up at twenty two
For just a few people I knew
Not for those who loved me to be true
A child is used to smiles
All it sees are happy faces, no cries
Life for them is sweet like cakes and pies
This child always exists within
And jumps out from under your skin
Seeing your little one's cute grin
It is when you come to realize
The truth behind adult eyes
Your heart gets confused but mind becomes wise
It is when you learn to accept
That to be happy, you should not expect
Everyone to be always perfect
It is when you learn to let go
Small mistakes of people you know
You are finally ready to grow
