Kingdom

Once there was a just king who ruled the kingdom of Sambhalpur. The territories of his kingdom extended from present-day western Odisha to Chattisgarh. He was a powerful king in his era.

The king had two wives and two sons from each of them. The elder queen was his chief consort. This made the younger queen very jealous and vindictive. She always hatched plans to remove the chief queen and become the main queen instead. Also, she wanted her son to be the next king.

Whenever she got a chance, she instigated the king against the chief queen. The king did not adhere much to her. However one day he was convinced by the younger queen and by acting on a whim of rage; gave a death sentence to the chief queen and her son!

After that, the chief queen and her little boy were hanged till death. She and her innocent child pleaded not guilty, but it was not enough to convince and melt the heart of the king.

Few years passed by when one day the king got to know the truth. That day he cried inconsolably thinking of the great sin he had committed!

The younger queen was promptly given the same fate which the chief queen had got due to the former's cruel intentions.

The king then made his younger son 'Yuvraj' and the next-in-line to the throne. And constructed a Shiv Temple on a hilltop in the memory of his chief queen and their son!
