Love Letters To My Fiance

I was doing my post graduation in a medical college in Uttar Pradesh when I  got engaged. I was in second year and my fiance was also doing PG  in a medical college in my hometown in Punjab She was in the first year.

As it was an arranged marriage so we did not find much time to know each other. We used to talk on the phone occasionally but talks were very formal like how are you and how are studies going on and so and so. Our marriage date was fixed one and a half years from the engagement date when I have to complete my p.g.

My fiancé’s birthday was nearing; four days before the birth date, I received a letter from her mentioning her hobbies and what she likes. She also asked me about my hobbies and liking. In the end, she asked me what gift I am giving her on her birthday.

Finding an appropriate gift was a daunting task at that time. First I thought I will buy a gift and courier to her but after thinking for some time I came to the conclusion that I will write a love letter to her and surprise her. I started working on it and in two days wrote a two-page love letter in the form of a poem with good rhyming. So the love for my fiance inspired me to write my first poem.

When she received the letter she appreciated it very much and then started the never-ending demand for the poems and I wrote more than twenty poems in those one and a half years.

When we got married she showed me all those poetic letters. She had kept it in a file and named it love letters.

After marriage also the demand continued and on birthdays, marriage anniversary, valentine

 Day and karwa chauth I have to write a poem instead of a gift.

But those letters remained special and even now after 20 years of marriage once in a year or two we take out those letters from the file and remember and enjoy those moments.

These love letters are sweet memories of those lovely days.
