The Magic Show
The Magic Show
"Come on! It's starting!", my neighbor Rahul hollered from the sidewalk.
"What's starting?" I said. Behind him, groups of kids hurried down the street.
We'd moved to the neighborhood just weeks before. I was shy; a bookworm, waiting for school to start. Rahul was the only kid I'd met.
"The magic show!" said Rahul, exasperated.
I saw rows of kids were seated on the grass.
White-haired and very thin, the magician wore a black hat and tails. In his hand he gripped a wand, producing doves from an urn. He asked for a volunteer. Rahul raised his hand. Everyone looked scared.
"Just relax," the magician whispered. Rahul got into the box. The box closed.
Then the magician waved his magic wand & when the box opened, a dove flew out of it.
Oh Goodness! The magician had turned Rahul into a dove! I just couldn't believe this!
I was scared. I wanted Rahul back. After five minutes, the dove flew back into the box & the box closed. When the magician waved his magic wand, the box opened & Rahul came out! Thank God!
Well, Rahul looked very happy. The audience clapped & almost everyone congratulated him. Rahul had surely become a "Star"!
