Three Flying Kisses
Three Flying Kisses
This year June, I think
Early morning Cab
Home to work
Fixed route
A usual traffic signal
Somehow always red
As the cab stopped
I saw
This beautiful sweet lady
Clad in a bright saree
Glittering jewellery
Clean hairdo.
Nice make-up
Red lipstick
Big bindi
All dressed up
Right in the morning
I often bump into her
On that route
At that signal
Recognizing her
I smiled
She too
And came up to me
I slid the window pane down
Handed over some small amount
And bowed to her
She lovingly put both her hands on my head
To bless me
As the signal turned green
And she was about to leave
Sensing that her blessings outnumbered the small amount I gave
I hurriedly gestured 3 quick flying kisses for her
Confused, she just smiled
As her eyes turned moist
As if to say
Nobody ever did that to her
She quickly turned towards the pavement
I too rolled up the glass pane
Feeling happy for the blessings I received
And thinking that nobody noticed
My impromptu flying kisses
I had my day already made
But as my cab went in gear one
I casually looked out for none
And lo
There was more to come
This young couple in an SUV next to me
Both smiling
And looking admiringly at me
Their smile said that they witnessed it all
Especially those 3 flying kisses n all
They offered an applause
Both of them, in sync
I smiled and nodded
And the cars moved on
Today as I remember that day
I want to raise a toast
To that beautiful saree-clad woman
Who happened to be
If I may say
A little less fortunate
Who happened to be
If I may say
A sweet Transgender
God bless her and her tribe
May the world
And it's a perception
Change for them soon
May they get into the mainstream soon
Amen
