Dots the Giraffe, Boo the Monkey, Trunky the Elephant and Stripes the Zebra had walked out of the forest and had reached the city.

The city was big and huge. There were cars zipping fast in the lanes. Huge buses filled with people honked. There were some trucks too on the road.

“Come on guys, let’s cross the road”, said Dots.

Boo, Stripes, and Dots all stood in a line at the zebra crossing waiting for the light to turn green.

“The light’s green. Let’s cross”, said Dots.

“Where is Trunky?”, shouted Stripes.

The three friends turned and saw Trunky trying to hide behind the bus stop.

“What happened Trunky, why are you hiding”, asked Dots.

“I scared as I’ve never crossed the road. There are so many fast vehicles! I can’t cross”, sobbed Trunky.

“Don’t cry Trunky”, said Boo patting Trunky.

“We will teach you how to cross a road and will cross together”, smiled Boo.

“Can you see that crossing with black and white stripes? It’s called a Zebra crossing after me”, beamed Stripes.

“Yes, this kind of a crossing is there for pedestrians and anyone who wants to cross the street can use it”, explained Dots.

“Whenever you want to cross a road look for Stripes like me”, said Stripes.

“You also need to look at the traffic lights to see if it is safe for you to cross”, said Dots.

“What traffic lights, those lights with green, orange and red?”, asked Trunky.

“Yes, Red means stop”, said Boo.

“Orange means slow down and be ready to stop as the lights will change”, said Dots.

“Green means go”, said Stripes.

“Also look to your left and right before you cross to see if the road is clear before you cross”, explained Dots.

“Oh okay, now I understand”, smiled Trunky.

“The light is red so we must wait”, said Trunky.

“Now it has turned orange. What does that mean?”, asked Boo.

“Means we slow down to stop”, said Trunky.

“It’s green, let’s cross”, said Stripes.

“Come let’s hold hands. Trunky you hold my hand and Boo you hold Stripes hand”, said Dots.

“Look to the left and the right”, said Stripes.

“All clear”, said Trunky.

All four friends held hands and crossed the road.

“Yaay! I crossed the road for the first time”, jumped Trunky.

“Next time you are sacred, follow the rules and hold someone’s hand”, smiled Stripes.

“Yes, I will. Thanks, guys”, grinned Trunky happy at crossing the road with his friends.

Are you also scared like Trunky sometimes while crossing the road?

Follow the rules and hold an older person’s hand, you will be fine.
