The Great Mother
The Great Mother
Years and years ago The Great Mother created her tiny children
They were clever
and could utilise almost everything she gave them
Soon they were learning more
They wanted more
And more.
The children said-- Dear Mother, can we use your trees?
They are so green and strong
We want to build houses with them.
Mother replied with a smile-- Yes, of course.
A few days later, they again asked her--
Mother can we use your rivers? We need them to water our fields and use them in drinking, bathing and washing
She accepted their request.
Soon there were green fields blossoming with golden grains
Cosy homes built of wood
Beautiful tools made of stones and barks.
Years passed
The children forgot her
Then one day, when in need
They came to her and asked--
Mother, can we take your minerals and ores? We will set up industries with them
She was hesitant at first but soon agreed
How could she deny her dear children things that she could provide?
After all, they too were a part of her.
Years passed on again
Now the mother was frail and weak
With nothing left in her to give
Her children looked upon her in anguish
And started blaming each other for her sad state
She stood there crying sadly
She was sad not because she had nothing
But because she was worried about her children.
She wailed--
Oh! Now how will my children live without me? How will they live if I am gone?
