The Art Of Happiness

Lonely are the stars

The Sun and the moon

The mountains majestic touch the sky

Yet they stand on their own

The circle of birth and death

A lifetime ends before we can learn

To live, to love and cherish

The story we were given 

We keep searching but rarely find

A shoulder, a companion, a soulmate

Someone to only complete us

A heart that could be our home

Yet we wander in the crowd

Shallow bonds shared moments

When the cold, dark night sets in

To each crawl into our shell

Wrapped in our blankets of loneliness

Alone with our thoughts and wonderings

Our souls searching for something deep

In a vast, shallow existence

The day dawns and we march along

To the tune of endless routine

Muffle the emptiness in the sounds 

A mask to stifle the turbulence within

There is no difference 

Rich or poor, each we chase

The soul hungers for something beyond, as

We silently carry on our incessant race

True poverty is not in the pockets

It is constant greed that eludes happiness

Like little children, if only we could learn

The art of laughing more and needing less
