Pieces Of Eight!

Pieces Of Eight!

Life is not all black and white,

Split into zones of wrong and right,

It raises the radiant sun,

Also comes the beautiful night.

But there be the dusk and dawn,

And a square for every pawn,

There is grass for every fawn,

At least a bite if not a lawn.

When the matters look so tight,

All we say is might is right,

Dressed in shades of dark and light,

Come forth men for one good fight.

But wars are not fought alone,

Nor does easily come a throne.

As have lores and legends shown,

Trust no fairy, trust no crone.

No rook can just set it straight,

Or a bishop cross your fate,

Pawns that number one to eight,

Come in handy just so late.

Fall back on the queen behind,

Perchance you are in a bind,

Tricky spots and similar kind,

Back to the wall, back to the grind.

So your ballads bards will sing,

Even when your scars do sting,

Thou be last of men standing,

To rule them all, the mighty king.
