The World Is Our Shawshank

We are prisoners of our own expectations,

Of society's customs and traditions.

While we are always told to do the right thing,

The ones taking the shortcuts are the ones who are winning.

Yet we put in the hard yards and are up to the task,

Because they say there is always hope.

But you look around, and you are left bewildered,

The more you want to open your wings, the more you are being deterred.

You wonder if the Man above is listening to you,

And after a while, you just stop to pursue.

What about all the dreams and desires,

Can happiness also expire?

This life is like a merry-go-round,

Sometimes you are up and sometimes you are down.

Part of the journey is to keep moving on,

Persevere; because the night is the darkest just before the dawn.
