The Contagion War - #Covid19

When I flip leisurely through the pages of my diary,

I notice some monotonous writing that lacked a certain glee.

Yes, this was the time when we were all preoccupied with a global fight,

Come, let me take you through a poem I wrote one night…

 

The battle has begun, for a cause so sudden,

A battle which says “don’t unite, stay apart and away.”

“For now, if you unite, you’re not really the might,

Only a loophole in the emerging fight.”

 

But that having been said, we’re all still connected,

By the binding voice of the hopeful struggle

Whose meaningful demands like frequent washing of hands,

We better follow without a list of our own commands.

 

For this is not a decree for just my own safety,

My carelessness could be the downfall of many others

So, let us each do our part, to enhance the efforts planned on a chart,

And put an end to the music of this viral Mozart!

 

Alas! We will never know where this virus lingers,

Between the shady toes? The busy fingers?

Stay on guard, because, for all you know,

They know well, the path to their destination cell.

 

“Well, now that I’m on guard, what exactly next?”

I would suggest not losing our zest.

These may be desperate times, but we still have many paradigms,

Of people making most of these testing times.

 

While we at home, are feeling the lust to roam

Let us at once realize the consequence that will follow,

Why add to the burden, of the doctors and nurses on a mission

When all we should be doing is thanking them with passion…

 

Our goals have been put forward, our thoughts have become blurred,

But it’s probably time to enjoy something very unplanned

For they’d probably always occupy a backseat in our mind,

Be it dusting the blind, or maybe washing utensils after having dined.

 

While the warmth of the sun and the gushing of the wind

Have become temptations that we, for some time, have to rescind,

Let us not forget the enormous potency of hope

For hope, and only hope can make us smile day after day.

 

As I pen down my feelings and thoughts, I gaze with sleepy eyes

At the sky where the moon had been shining bright,

But now the Sun was ready to rise,

Ready to spread the strength and warm the skies.

And just like that, yet another day of a global fight had begun…

 

Now I close my eyes and recollect the happenings,

Time and again, thanking the Almighty for his blessings.

And as I close my diary, I feel a certain satisfaction

Owing to the battle that we had all fought and won!

PS: May this poem give strength to all the warriors at the forefront of this battle and all the doctors and nurses who are being called in each day to help fight this war.
