The Palms
The Palms
Small palms, big fingers, small fingers, big palms
Open palms, rigid hands lifeless arms, muddy fingers
Why are they in a heap ? Where have they come from?
Were they caught in the floods or drowned in a river?
Were they killed in waters and then washed ashore?
Or strangled and drowned in streams around ?
Where is the hand that rocked the cradle?
Where is the hand that rules the world?
Where is the hand that wreaked such havoc?
Where is the hand that brought this catastrophe?
Was it the Hurricane or the Typhoon or was it the Cyclone
That rendered these hands so lifeless?
The beautiful hands, the loving palms that now lay listless
Even in death, they were together till their last breath
Hand over hand, palm over palm fingers spread out,
Reaching out, seeking one another, stretching out...
As if seeking solace from each other's nearness
They seemed to convey through their piled hands and laid out arms .....
Hand in hand, we'll go together
Into a land of new horizons
Palm over palm we'll promise to be together
We will, sing and dance, we'll play and prance
With Angels and Fairies, Elves and Elfins
Seeking blessings and benedictions for a Heavenly trance
Where the beautiful abode of God is awaiting our presence
With open hands and a loving heart
To give us shelter and love of sorts.
