Halls Of Ivy

Halls Of Ivy

In the whimsical world ,

Of sweet seventeen.

Don’t know on what chords,

I unloaded myself from ball and chain,

To get the nutrients out of 12th boards,

Willingly, school bade me farewell in time,

School friends were now left behind.

Now the new pavements opened its doors,

I was open to the giant circle of life.

This place, thrice the size of school I knew,

I was not too nervous, I was banged.

With the theory of meeting someone new,

Here I met Shreya and Senorita in the web,

For making acquaintances was just another step.

I was normal, pretending to be normal,

Throughout Fresher’s and introductions,

Boom bash and the background noise,

Because I was a layman, just an average,

To look upon those hot senior boys,

And it could be a sin to copy those styles.

With spent and present I had to go miles.

Following things I had never smelt before,

I was offered some firewater; one of the best,

Couldn’t name the feeling for the first kiss I met.

Rounds and grips, bikes and trips,

To magnificence of nearby waterfalls,

This middle age, too active for emotions,

Nights were left to cry for no reason.

Part of genesis they said, it will

Last forever “I am not going to leave you”,

Last semester they turned against the roads,

All securely couched into clashing boxes,

Crossing the streams with different fords,

Dreams were the secondary pursuits,

Egos were pursued on the top roots.

Disentangling life’s topsy-turvy,

Love went complicated and curvy,

Friendship; messy with fights,

Time would not wait; perhaps, we’ll forget the sorrows,

And this milestone, mere a reflection in eyes,

To just lie down, remember and smile,

What all it meant to me, the life.
