A Mundane Life!!!

The race begins every morning at five,

Up and awake without a choice,

Hurrying up with the daily chores,

Every morning it is such a bore.

Running around to keep up with time,

Can't take an extra second, and say it is fine,

Breakfast is bread, and tea? Just a sip,

The morning paper is read in a snip.

Then begins the marathon run,

Traffic is a challenge next to none,

Work is worship - so it is said,

Hence I worked till I was almost dead!

Nine to nine? It is nothing new,

When I reach home, minutes left? A few,

Dinner is eaten alone, in hush!

Then it is time to hit the bed.

Weekdays are the racing days,

So I run the race again and again,

Weekends are when I live my life,

Children, family and some ' me' time.

Those two days end before they begin!

And lo!! It is Monday morning, again!!

This is the story of my life, you know?

Sounds boring and mundane, no??

Then, one day I looked around carefully,

Not happy as me, I could see, so many,

Living life under temporary shelters,

Some, with no roof over their heads.

Braving the sun, cold and rain,

They live in suffering and pain,

Looking for the occasional cheer,

To continue living, hiding their tears.

There were others with loads of money,

But the trips to hospitals were so many,

They resigned quietly to their fate,

Medicines were now a part of their daily diet.

There were those who cursed destiny,

Having lost a dear one, a tragedy,

They had to start all over again,

With no one to share their struggle or pain.

Others with an unhappy personal life,

Wayward children, or an unfaithful wife,

Many looked at me with jealousy,

Thinking I was living my life peacefully.

I was indeed amongst the lucky few,

Had a treasure, only now realized its value,

The grass is always greener on the other side,

I am now very happy with my mundane life!!
