Swimming Pool: More Than Just The Water

Swimming Pool: More Than Just The Water

May 19, 2018

It’s been more than 1 year I have been to Turkey; everything was going smooth and usual in the past 1 and half year, except May 15, 2018

This May 15, became a lesson of my life. In those 15 seconds, I imagined everything that could happen to me in the next few seconds.

I am living in an apartment with my 3 colleagues; I came back from my workplace which is a luxury yacht at 6 o'clock and was very tired, so I decided to go swimming in the pool which was in our society.

Well yes, I know swimming and I swim in the sea as well, but this experience was far different from other swimming experience.

I went to the pool and dive from the ladder in the pool without even worrying about its depth, I was very confident in swimming.

I swim and float for 9 meters and I felt tired, I wanted to relax so I tried to stand in the pool, at that point I realized I am at the depth of almost 12 feet that is 6.5 feet more from my height.

I wanted to go back but my legs were shivering, breath was almost gone, I tried to swim but within 1 mt. my body again became tired and I thought maybe the depth could be lesser now but it was the same, it was a flat swimming pool of 12 feet from start until it ends and I was not in the condition to swim anymore I drowned and came up. I looked at the ladder that was still far away from me I tried to swim again by all my strength but this time again I failed to swim.

After a couple of seconds, I drowned in the swimming pool as all of my energy was sucked up.

For almost 15 sec I was drowning and coming up from the water as my body was exhausted and not helping me to swim anymore.

I figured out what will happen to my body if I die here, what a black day it will be for my family and loved ones. How could I even die at the age of 23 years? I imagined the condition of the singer who died 4 years ago in a swimming pool in the Maldives.

While I came up from the water by hitting the floor I shouted for help twice. There was an old lady who was just looking from her balcony she didn’t even try to come out or call to someone for help, she didn’t even care about that.

This time I hold my breath and tried to float as “floating is always the easiest when you are tired”, this was told to me by my Captain when we were discussing “life in the sea”, but, because I was panicked and threaten too much that I forgot his words.

I was floating and I saw for the ladder, it was still 2 feet away from my reach and at last, I hit the ladder point by floating and hold it in two or three attempts, still, I was shivering badly.

I came out from the pool, and recall everything that happened and even that also what could have happened.

I saw my colleague running towards the pool from the apartment, to save me but fortunately, I was already out from the dreadful pool. It was nothing than a nightmare. I have seen vie en danger very closely.

Do remember,” if it’s your mistake then you have to deal with it anyhow, no one will help you until you don’t help yourself”,

And that day was a lesson for me that I should never put my boat on sail without knowing the direction of the wind.

"Incident and accident can happen any time, anywhere."
