Was It A Suicide ??

Even today when I think about her, I get in a dilemma. It was the first case ever which made my life miserable. I always wanted to serve the nation, always wanted to do my duty honestly and always wanted to help people. In the 28 years of my career, I never had a doubt upon my honesty towards my work but that case made me every decision doubtful.

I was posted to a new place and it was my 6th working day. It was a stormy night, when the phone rang -"Hello, Police! Please come fast. It's a suicide case." We went there and found a pretty young girl wearing a bloodied dress was hanging from the fan. It seemed as she was raped, murdered and hanged. We searched the entire room but found nothing as evidence. We enquired people but still didn't find any proof or information as a reason for her death. What could be the reason for the death of a young girl? The very next day, I along with my team came again and searched every corner of her house thrice but didn't find anything. The medical reports came and it stated that the girl hanged herself and died. The questions which hit my mind were - "From where did that blood come? Did it come only because she was hanged? What is the reason behind that?" I asked about it from the doctor and he said-"You are new here. Work here for a month and you will understand everything." We had meetings about this case and it came as a 'sensation' in the society. Months passed away, nobody was ready to accept this case as a murder in spite that everyone was sticking to one thing-" It was a suicide." But why? Why did the girl hang herself? What is the reason behind it? Nobody knows the reason for her death but still declared it a 'Suicide' and the case was closed.

Three years passed and that case was unsolved. I was on my way and heard two officers talking that case-"A girl has filed PIL for this case. What a stupid girl? She will definitely die soon." And, Yes, they were right, as soon as the case opened, the girl was found dead. I wanted to search and go into the roots of these cases and fortunately, I met one of their friends and she told me everything.

The girl was a Journalist and she came here for spending holidays and to meet people residing here. She found that something unlawful was taking place with the girls living there. She started researching about this. She had an argument with an officer and was threatened. But she denied taking her steps back. At night, she was on her way to her room and was kidnapped. She was lying on the road lifelessly, tears rolling down from her eyes and blood was flowing. Somehow she reached her room and call her friend and told them everything. And, the next day, her friends found the news of her death.

What what did really happened with her I don't know but the truth is she was right and was working for the welfare of people. Her case was closed as that boy was a well-known personality and her murder was declared as suicide I don't know how many people will have to suffer from the situations? How many of them have to be proven wrong even if they're right? How many 'murders and rapes' are going to be declared as a 'suicide'?

Today, I am going to retire and I don't have any emotional feelings revolving around my mind. The question revolving around both my mind and heart is -"Was It Really A Suicide??"
