"If" is a condition with possibilities and "only if" is the "full stop". Innovation ends with "only if." For "only if", there is greater stress on the constraint.

The below story is one in which Sitaram used "only if" as the weapon to justify his laziness.

Rajaram was a wealthy merchant. He was stingy but he spends very high on his son's education. He wanted his lazy son Sitaram, to study and go abroad. But Sitaram always used to put conditions.

Rajaram said, "Your college bus is waiting, please go to college today."

"Sure Dad, only if you give me 500 rupees", Sitaram's usual reply.

One day, Sitaram asked for a new bike to go to college. Rajaram thought, "It's the right time to give my son, his own medicine."

"Okay son," he said casually.

Sitaram was delightfully surprised, how come his stingy father agreed. But there came a guided bomb, when Rajaram further said, "I will give you the bike you want, only if you pass in all the exams." Rajaram was undoubtedly knowing about his lazy son and was ready to take this gamble.

After a few days exam had been over, Sitaram came back to father and said, "Father, I talked to my lecturer. I am sure I will pass all the exams this time."

Rajaram was amazed, "How did this divine miracle happen, son?", In mind, he was both happy and sad about the bike gamble.

Rajaram almost fainted with mighty shock, when he heard the next statement. Casually Sitaram said,"The lecturer has promised to pass me in all the subjects, only if you give him two lakh rupees."
