Destiny

The night show got over by 12 am at a nearby multiplex. Everyone was in a hurry to get back before it’s too late at night. To avoid the rush, Rohit went to the washroom to freshen up before leaving. In the meanwhile, he consoled himself “Thank God I don’t have office tomorrow!”.

By the time he came out and went to the lift on the 10th floor, it left. “Well, the movie was really good and scary one; worth watching with a 4.5 for sure” he commented to himself. As he pressed the lift button, it descended from the 12th floor. “I should better hurry or else I won’t be having any means of transport to get back” he realized. The clock was running towards quarter to 1 am now.

As the lift door opened and just about to enter, Rohit saw a girl taking the left corner. “A girl at this time? Maybe the people are working late today in the food court” he thought to himself as he entered and occupied the right corner of the lift. “Late night shift? Is it for everyone or are you working overtime” he asked politely to the girl by his side. To his words, the girl showed no gestures nor she responded by any means.

Just a bit later, she smiled looking downwards. To this behaviour of the girl, Rohit felt a positive attitude and with his cunning approach, he decided to get close to the girl. He then gradually moved a bit by bit more towards the girl. Still the girl didn’t raise any voice or show any kind of gesture to protest. Realizing the interest of the girl, he now came up with confidence to his evil idea that was blinking in his head. Now when there were just a few inches between the duo, Rohit lifted his arm with style and blowing a whistle, he was going to put his hand around her shoulder. However, no reaction from the girl cleared his mind of any fear.

Just about to place his hand on her, he got hit with an object and stuck. He then turned his face to the side of the girl to check. To his amazement and shocking eyes, it was the mirror he discovered to which his hand had hit. The girl was actually seen in the mirror standing to his left but no physical presence in the lift. “What the hell!” he shouted with eyes wide open trying to understand what had just happened realising the current scenario with an utter shiver. This time the girl in the mirror smiled again and with an evil look she turned her face towards Rohit and whispered, “You look scared“. The duo were in eye contact for few seconds just when the girl hit back in the mirror from the other side with a sudden thud. Her instant action scared him to his nerves, stepping back from her he lost balance and smashed with the mirror of the other corner.

With his head smashing the mirror and glass particles piercing to his back, he fell down with a sudden blackout for a few seconds. His eyes became too blurry to see and could not even recollect himself. The girl now gradually extended her hand towards him with her eyes turning black, as she if was coming out of the mirror to reach him. As he gradually gained back his consciousness, he sighted the girl now was just few inches away from him now that she had started crawling towards him. “What the hell!” he shouted, “Stay away from me!”. Rohit was completely in shock of what he should do in this situation as there was no one to his help.

Just about to grab him, the lift door opened with the ring of the lift bell. To his sight, it was the door to his life. Rohit picked himself up with his full force and ran to his life until he reached the exit door of the shopping mall as he realized he was almost near to his last breath. Now he could see the main road as he was almost near to the main gate. “Oh man! What did just happen?” he murmured to himself “How is it even possible? Who was she (with a pause) and how did she!” as the entire situation just went blank to him.

Breathless Rohit, now ran out of the mall finally and stopped on the road to take back his breath and smelled the life back in him. Realising his fault feeling guilty or his evil idea he thought to himself, “If I would not have done such a thing this would not have happened, that thing (pause) I mean she wouldn’t have attacked me. Thank goodness for my luck that saved me!” A bright light just fell on his face from the side. He turned his face towards the source questioning himself, “What the..!” A running truck just hit him hard as he got on its way taking the life out of him within seconds.

Moral: Destiny cannot be changed.
