2020 Legacy

I was born amidst an eternal 2050 winter

I live on a mountain top of garbage and rust

While the rising sea drowned our megacities

The privileged told the poor ones to adjust

I don't blame them though, but my forefathers

For their endless greed and insatiable lust

How mercilessly they raped this little blue ball

Till its oceans boiled and the air became dust

No fish in water now and no birds in skies

No flowers either because no more butterflies

It's sub-zero in May and rains acid in August

Oxygen cylinder is rationed or lungs would burst

But what were these moron thinking in 2020

Plundering the planet's core and crust

And when some children stood up in defiance

Shamelessly they mocked them and sounded just

I wish I could travel back in time to warn them

Get their party spirits spoilt and bubbles bust

Because all I have inherited is a soulless world

A failed legacy of arrogance, regrets, mistrust

Can't see anyone else around here anymore

And soon I too shall turn into dust

But till then, as the last of humanity

Run, hide, heal, steal, Survive I must
