A Chirpy Day
A Chirpy Day
Not a day you miss
Never late by a minute
As I lazily curl myself inside the cover
I hear you flying past my window
Chatting happily with your mates
Where do you go so regularly?
Wonder how you are so punctual
What is it that keeps you so active
Which purpose drives you so compulsively
Why do I lack your discipline?
I find your kind here and there during the day
Busy indulging in something
Oblivious to the humdrum all around
Each one with a definite purpose
Totally sincere in its efforts
I hear a chirp here and a chirp there
Adding color to my mundane routine
I wish I could understand your language
To hear what your friends are chatting about
In such sweet voices all the time
After a busy day as I look out from my balcony
Lost in my own thoughts
You happily return with your huge flock
Fluttering zealously and chirping with cheer
Again, never late, always on time
The beautiful scene of your homecoming
Distracts me from my thoughts
As you settle down on the trees
Totally hidden among the leaves
I curse the axe!
