Being herself

She was not the puppet of the times, of parochial thoughts and narrowed minds.

She was a connoisseur of all that was liberating, of all that smelt 

Like the first breath of freedom.

And perhaps, which is why, she never felt the need for a semblance of freedom,

For, those minds which are free in the truest sense 

Do not need to depend on some mascots symbolizing that freedom.

She knew her worth amidst the sly domination of the worldly chauvinists,

And she never shied away from being her true self, in all her glory, in all her worth.

Perhaps, which is why, she was not particularly a favourite 

Of the likes of them - they who loved to go with the flow, 

Who loved to bear the colossal brunt of what has always been.

She was an iconoclast, deemed by them to be a heretic, but

What they failed to recognize was that

She never needed these labels, for, she was simply content being herself.
