Bovine Conversation

Two goats and three cows

sat on a meadow one fine day.

They chewed some grass

and savored some hay.

They looked at the sky

and counted some birds.

While a lonesome buffalo

puffed some smoke

from a broken pipe.

Said the goats to the cows

“Have you been to the land

beyond the moon.

Where the sky is clean

and the grass is maroon”.

Said the cows to the goats,

in unison they said

“Yes dear we have been

to that land of yellow and maroon.

The place so inhabited by

knights and kings

and ladies and queens.

They are gentle like us and

humble and serene.

They walk on all four

and eat all grass.

And when the sun doth sets

they chew cud like us."
