Broken Into Two
Broken Into Two
One day, fresh morning.
My mother handed me all the work,
I started the work seeing my mom’s beautiful smirk.
At the door someone knocked,
Knocked and knocked and knocked
And knocked the door off its hinges and screws,
There came in some men with guns and big shoes,
They ran in,
In a fast forward motion,
And O! I could see smog
Outside in the summer morning.
Dead bodies everywhere,
Blood splattered everywhere,
Blood, yes, blood I was sure!
Blood, yes, blood fully pure!
I could hear the newly widowed women mourn
I turned and heard that
Two new nations were going to be born.
People killing people,
People helping people
People being selfish to people,
Dead air,
It wasn’t a good scent
I swear,
Broken houses, broken tables
Broken chairs.
People fought for bread,
And the one who got it
Didn’t share,
For others, people didn’t care,
Other people’s life wasn’t forgiven
It would have been 1948
Settling was hard,
As it may seem
Suddenly my eyes opened and,
O! My friend, it was just a bad dream
