Colour Blind
Colour Blind
A house goes up in flames
No red, no yellow,
It’s green that paints
Their lips.
The same green
That colours the leaves
That breathes life into us
Becomes the green
That bombs homes
In the valley of Kashmir.
A gun goes off
And all around
Screams echo,
A blinding red
Covers the walls.
The red that paints
Every heart
In love
Is the red that bleeds
When hate swallows
A mind
And it stumbles
Into a school in America.
You may see darkness
As a curse
But what about them
Whose skin is too dark
To blend in the light?
Is the night not dark,
Yet you sing every word
That calls the night beautiful
And full of love.
Colours make us beautiful
Colours make us unique,
Different,
Not less,
Not more.
A white canvas is not hung,
A black moon is not loved.
Every colour is beautiful
But if you can’t love them all,
Let’s go colour blind
And perhaps,
You’ll learn to see them all
As equal.
Because no colour
Defines you
And without colour to hide you
Can you be a human
With a heart so true
That humanity is the only shade of you?
