HAIBUN- A COMBINATION OF HAIKU POETRY and PROSE
winter break
alone with my shadow
on the walls
Sitting alone by the window, I stare at the blossoming Magnolia wavering in the air. In a flash, a magnolia flower gets blown off by the gusty wind. I get up intending to pick the flower. However, a strange feeling overtakes me. I chucked the flower onto the sofa and skedaddled into Hira’s room. I feel a stab of memory, Us taking ‘Saatpheras’ during our wedding day- making a lifelong commitment of togetherness.

Back in Hira’s room, I run my fingers over her portrait that hung near the inglenook. It’s now exactly ten years since I saw her special type of ‘Monalisa Smile’. It’s a strange feeling to be back in her room, amidst her belongings. I still sense her rocking on her treasured rosewood chair, flashing her ‘Monalisa Smile’ at me and having a whale of time. This sight makes me see the back of my seclusion.
