Entering

Dried leaves entrapping the ground

A rusted gate behooved

Keeping a watch around

Eschewing entrance in that institution

Accommodated by the dead

Though on the contrary

Both the realms have a rendezvous

Out of grief or out of greed

Out of bravado or out of bet

Yowl would the gates when pushed apart

Trepidation in the visitors’ heart

Entering the world of epitaphs

Dominated by the undertaker

With undead corpses being saved by the bell

Intentions can be numerous

Some are true, some are pretext

Perhaps a loved one visiting another

Perhaps some resurrectionist

Has come to snatch the soul from reaching its destiny any further

To serve as cadaver for an anatomist

Perhaps George Brown has come to take his daughter’s heart

To brew a tonic to free his son

From the clasps of consumption

But simultaneously one leaves something and with something

Flowers on the tombs, covered ground with a buried coffin

Or six feet re-dug for sowing a sin

One leaves with grief and memories

Some with profits and some with pennies

Giving rise to the town’s rumor

Adding to Punch and Judy’s humor
