HAD I BEEN...
HAD I BEEN...
Had I been...
[a sonnet]
Had I been a girl,
I would have had lesser of my father's wrath
And more of the warmth of my mother's bosom.
The ogling eyes of mean vagabonds would
Have made me dress gaintily and garishly,
So they could still undress me with their fantasises.
My periods would make me ponder the need to live
My struggle, to overcome the social stigma and dogma;
A fight to thrive, but something to fight for, at least anyway!
From conniving sociopaths to obsequious sycophants,
The shifting stakes of being adorned as an asset to being blasted for a burden;
The quest to prove my worth, lest be trashed, would have worked me about at least!
Life wouldn't have been so mundane, had I been a girl.
Life wouldn't have been so easy, had I been a girl!
