Happy and Sad

I see them both - happy and sad 

Like grenades falling forth to drive me mad 

And what do I think will persist! 

But a bag full of lessons for me - the protagonist. 

I dodge them - these strange balls of fire 

Yet where do I arrive, but to call me a liar 

Because I am supposed to have won, to have tricked the spree 

But Oh! Stands the irony - the spree has tricked me! 

And when tears betray my longing soul 

When walls have fallen to let me stroll 

In comes the bitter theme, unfailing as ever 

To push me down but pull the lever 

The pull was powerful but the push, too gentle 

A right magic, a rule so subtle 

Enabling balance and soon I'm a skylark 

Who has rubbed happy and sad to create the spark!
