I Am Free

These echoing waves that break the shore at my feet fill me up with warmth.

Starting at my toes, working up to my spine,

spreading like wings unfolding in my heart,

my soul is put to ease at this feeling.

It takes me, holds me, and I walk on down this sandy beach.

The first smile in months appearing on me.

My hand lifts up touching my cheek with finger tips,

I nip my own little pinkie to just feel it.

Tilting my head, my eyes lit with more than the glow of the midday sun,

a laugh escapes me and the cry of the gulls join it's mirth in the air.

I lift my head up to the big blue sky, throwing my fists up into a "Why", stretching my back into an arch,

I let out a joyful cry, scaring the seagulls near me into flight.

"Oops," I giggle behind my left hand.

My grin appearing again.

Closing my blue eyes for only a few seconds,

I breathe in the sea salted air and held it in.

Slowly I exhale, eyes opening once more, my hands lock together behind me.

I start to walk down the wave soak sands.

A calmer smile showing, as my footprints get left behind me,

I hum an old favorite tune of mine.

Finally, I washed it all away, just like waves with each passing step.
