I Set Her Free

I spat evil words at her,

As though she meant nothing,

I made her feel unworthy,

In reality, she was too good for me,

I made my voice loud,

To seem superior,

To keep her bound,

I scared her,

Yet she still stuck around,

She could never find a fault,

She would give me my own excuses,

Blaming herself,

Knowing it was all on me,

Time and time again,

Look at what I’ve done,

I destroyed her,

A burden I cannot bear,

Tomorrow she will awake,

For me not to be there,

She will be sad at first,

But one day she will see,

I didn’t leave to hurt her,

I left to set her free.
