If Love Ever Plays Games

If Love Ever Plays Games

As long was my life,

I do remember still:

I was never one

To lie on a window sill.

That vacant joy seemed full

Till I found her all alone.

She talked quite politely,

Shaken; I thought her my own.

So once in dim light of dusk

And that scarlet, heavenly glare

Had I asked her when passions belabored

Her reply's content wait, that made my visions bare.

And in snare had I walked,

Just woken up to see the iron cage.

Her shocking reply made me sorry and sad.

But in my mind, there lay defiant rage.

What sins had I done!

Whose heart had I scarred!

Shouting back at her face.

O, my feelings parred.

After ages: as it seemed

I saw her with a prey,

My mind went diabolical.

Fear and shame made me pale and grey.

If love ever be truly one soul

in two bodies.

Had I been cursed and pampered still?

Elusive esteem had reduced me to bone.

If ever the trickster playeth games

But love defiled me.

Not in Venus, not being Cupid

But the form you easily see.

If love ever plays games;

Everyday guilt may:

Suddenly, evermore or forever

Leave a heart astray.

If love ever plays games

This is how it would be.

If love every plays games

Do not judge me.

In pleasures of lovers' breeze

Such targets it maims,

"So much had I done for her"

To know, love always plays games.
