Illusion
Illusion
Was five,
When they asked me to greet people, head bowed in courtesy.
Grew up in an illusion that,
You give respect to earn respect, certainly.
I was ten,
Was told to show off my dancing skills.
Grew up in an illusion that,
Choosing dance as a career might help paying bills.
Was twelve,
When I was asked to enhance my learning efficiency.
Grew up in an illusion that,
Good marks leads to great jobs, earning enough for self sufficiency .
I was fifteen,
Was warned to maintain distance from guys.
Grew up in an illusion that,
There is not always an answer for a why.
They told me not to trust a man
And from that moment onward,
He was never a part of the clan
Was eighteen,
When someone informed life would be stable after college.
Still in my illusion that,
Survival would be smooth, I being a tree of knowledge
Turned twenty,
They promised to be my friends throughout.
Still illusion won't fade, I predicted again,
I standing together, stiff as pillar, with my girl scout.
Turned twenty four,
They asked me to get married.
Was under impression that society won't question me,
For spending lifetime, with my parents, throughout, unvaried
Now I am twenty six.
Bubble of illusion finally busted.
Experiencing several colors of life,
Often leaving me quite disgusted.
Nothing lasts forever,
As forever is a myth.
Dreams are illusion,
Reality is a harsh filth.
People come and go,
But, some do last longer leaving an impact.
Restoring faith in humanity
Realizing not everything is a part of contract.
I also realized that they were not always right,
Like being specific about a particular gender.
Whom they portrayed negatively,
But are great friends, more than family and our daily defenders.
Though, I lived in an illusion
With relations, career all made up in my mind.
My wonderland didn't last for long
As I chased things, which never lasts, like a blind.
Moreover, illusion is your own creation,
Drafting happiness to be in place.
Some may have unicorns flying in it
But reality is still a rat race.
Cheers to reality !!
