Immortality

Seeking the elixir of life infinite,

Childe Roland to the 'Dark Tower' has come,

He did fight and conquer with his might,

The tempests wild, the tides gruel-some.

He stares out the window, a crimson canopy,

Flashes, swivels in front of his eyes,

A curse awaits of rage and jealousy,

Betwixt him and his death to die.

The cosmic stars and the moon shine blurred.

What doth man gain from wars?

A baton to rule and then to be feared,

Or kill humanity with wounds and scars.

The gauzy world feels ever more surreal,

His desire finds oblivion divine,

His deeds, his campaigns were all so real,

Yet they zeroed to glory asinine.

He runs down the stairs, down to the hall,

Stands at the doorway.

Looking over yesterday,

“Immortality through conquests was a great fall”.

“What had I been looking for?” He asks his heart,

"Through hatred and violence, amidst love,

Love is the potion, the art.

For immortality from this Earth to that Adobe.”

Roland now sees the nostrum,

It’s the potion he had had already,

As a child in arms of his mum,

“Spreading such love is the only remedy.”
