India
India
Her journey took her to a place
Where smiles did sit on every face
Where long ago the Indus came
And so gave India her name
Softly shifting desert sands
And mountains that stood high on land
The setting sun at the end of day
Did form the most resplendent rays
The beauty of the mogul might
Most splendid in the sunset light
The people who outstretched their hand
To Goddess of a foreign land
The holy men did to her reach
And humility to her did teach
To love herself, as she must do
Is what would make her pure and true
The flowing Ganges, like the Nile
Did often make the Goddess smile
She saw how humans came to cleanse
And then be blessed by holy men
Richness, like she’d never seen
Did make so wide, the eyes of Queen
Yet t’was the poor that touched her heart
And from them that she could not part
With them, she found inner peace
And from her sadness some release
