Fly Solo!

Fly Solo!

As I walk with an upright gait, I see nobody to steal my gaze.

I feel tall as I sprint on, the world it seems, is in a daze;

I walk on, still unfazed with utopian thoughts lurching in and out, and about,

Just then, in a nondescript lane -

a little girl, a street urchin, randomly scavenging through the littered parcels, in a hope to get a tiny morsel.

Her eyes lit up, as she grabbed a half-eaten bun, and flashed a smile while on the run.

I walk on, but a little forlorn, trying to match my painted world with that of the unknown.

Then again, in a roundabout corner,

a young maiden, stepped inside a black car, shunning her chastity as she ventured to her morbid reality.

Her modesty doesn’t fetch her a bowl of rice - her poverty must pay the price!

I walk on, with shuddered steps, my world, now far-flung, like a shoddy maze.

I sniffled and tried to shut my eyes, the world I painted is all dark and set ablaze,

But again, as if by a tryst of irony,

My gaze fell upon an old man, clad in rags and, oh so jittery...

Lifting a sack of wheat on his trembling shoulders, as his ailing wife waits in a tiny hut, just behind the heap of boulders.

His age is no excuse to render him some rest, as he has to fend for his family and contain the survival test!

It’s a mad world out there, and nobody to care, only shadows lurking with their selfish bosoms all bare.

I felt vanquished like a wounded soul, all torn apart, at life’s wanton satire!
