Promise
Promise
Staring at the starry skies with melancholy
My eyes dart at the shooting star that crosses my way
An unspoken promise silently draft
Shattered into pieces.
Smiles lost at happiness cost
I stand at desolate plains surrounded by frost
Blankly gaping at my own two feet
What happened to the oath?
A group of people standing together
Beneath the tree, on the bench
Breeze blowing between our hair
Unbroken joy evident on our faces
Until the passage of time had us change places.
One after the other leaving the promise behind
Footsteps shifted, headed to places unreachable so
Slender fingers unable to grip the latter
Tears streaming down one's cheeks.
Pray tell, why does change exist?
Pray tell! Does change truly mean to shatter everything
We once had in the past?
Bitterness filled my heart.
Knowing that I would never see the light
Of our smiles together ever again
It is painful yet that is transformation
An acceptable defeat, one would say.
I have held on enough
And now I wish not to hold on anymore
Leaving the string that I once held dear
To flow alongside the broken promise
Now swept away with the wind of time.
This is my final goodbye
To memories and to laughter
A grim greeting to change
And to new stories yet to unfold.
