Reasons We Write For
Reasons We Write For

What do we write for?
Put pen to paper, and
Not talk it out loud?
Impairment of speech, or
Sharing memories — profound.
Credulous with our own souls,
How can we hear other sounds
Of rattling dreams and dramas
Sung on notes not found.
Breathe, a bit deeper, to
See the unrest in pain.
A mental frame of thoughts,
To gain the refrain.
In a world of ordinary men
Trying to escape the bane.
What cannot be seen, however,
Is what I tell you now —
Reasons we write for, and
Put pen to paper
Are feelings of solitude,
Because they no more
Are able to hear.
Drawing us farther,
Although never any nearer.
