Sow As You Shall Reap
Sow As You Shall Reap
You abandoned me
When I was three
To fulfill your dreams
Of pursuing your career
On the silver screen
Wanting to be free
Of motherhood responsibilities
Not having the decency
To share how you begot me
You were not there
To comfort me when
I saw my bloodstained panty
And thought life was ending
You were not there when
I was sick with typhoid
Mumps and measles, nor
Put ice packs on my forehead
When fever rose, blurred my vision
You were not there
To share my happiness
When I aced the board exams
Or when I received that
Letter of scholarship from
Carnegie Mellon University
To do my Ph.D.. In Life Sciences
It's your bad you never
Took time out to see your grandchild
All I received from you
Were hurriedly written
Congratulatory letters
Giving instructions to Nanna
To take me to the doctors
Every time I fell ill, had a fever
I grew up without you mother
I grew up alone, left home,
Fell in love, got married and
Now have a child of my own
And now when you have aged
Lost your fans, your screen presence
Being taken care of by nurses
You want me to stand by your bed
Hold your hands till your last breath
Leaving my three years old
To grow alone; fend for herself;
Sorry Mom please do take note
I'll not do to her, what I suffered
