The Circus
The Circus
There is a circus come to town
A large colorful tent on the school ground
Dancing elephant Jumbo and a bicycle riding parakeet
Well tamed lion Shera jumping through hoops
Trapeze artistes waltzing in the air
A well of death motorcyclist
Hat juggling monkeys and hopping kangaroo
There is a circus come to town
Patched up holes in the colored tent, the sunlight streams in
At each crack of the whip the ringmaster’s heart jumps.
Will Shera obey him or maul him in front of a cheering crowd
An old wrinkled elephant with cataract eyes
Trapeze artistes with torn stockings, armpit hairs
Faint moustaches on painted lips
Weathered wooden planks with rusty nails
That creak when the motorcycle revs up
The kangaroo misses his homeland
There is a circus come to town.
