The Cricket Match

It was the day of the big game!

From everywhere, people came.

Indian supporters cheered loudly,

Those from Sri Lanka entered proudly.

The game started at 2 o'clock

Looked on keenly the people's flock.

To start the cricket game,

The toss of the coin came.

Sri Lanka won the toss, they chose to bat,

Indian supporters looked like sad rats.

The batsman entered to the sound of cheer'

Bring it on,' he said, 'I have no fear.'

The ball was thrown and it was hit,

But Sri Lanka's happiness was for a bit

!India's fielder caught the ball.

'Alas!', the batsman sighed,

'I've failed them all!'

Each batsman was quickly out,

On the face of a Sri Lankan fan, there was a pout

Then to bat, it was India's turn,

'We'll show them! Watch and learn!'

The bowler, filled with tremendous worry,

Hit the ball with the strength of a lorry!

The ball was hit, through the sky, it flew,

'Six, six!' The umpire cried.

The fans' cheering motivated them all,

A six was hit on every ball!

At last went out, the last batsman,

Tensed and quiet was every fan.

Tallied together was the score,

Fans whispered more and more.

The last ball was hit for a four,

Indian supporters let out a loud roar!

'India! India!' There was pandemonium and cheer,

On the faces of some fans, even a tear.

'Hurrah!' We won! We did it!'Every face was happy and lit.

Indian fans laughed and ran off,

To tell their friends about the play-off.

Sri Lankan supporters looked on with dismay,'

Never mind! We'll win another day!'
