The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment
You know
Those caves?
The caves with stalactites
Hanging from their ceiling
The icicles, the ice
Melting with heat
Drip - plop - slop
Drip - plop - slop
Those questions would keep dripping
Nudging and irritating
Turning into chills
They would seep into my spine
Oh! Those restless, restless nights
Then one morning
When the sky was still red
Cold and calm
Moon and Sun together
Were stealing early morning kisses
I became a bird
An early bird
Reached you
You were the safe shelter
With humid dark umbrage
I was tired. I stopped.
The umbrage stretched its arms
But didn't enter
Waited for the best time
Kept knocking
Till I was ready
And when it was just the perfect time
Just when I was ripe
You entered. I surrendered.
I had to.
You were the answers to my questions.
The Bodhi tree, you were
And I transformed into Buddha
Calm, serene, enlightened.
